Keyways

Standard keyways and dimensions should be used whenever possible. Accepted standards are shown in machinery handbooks.

Keyways should be dimensioned as shown in Figures 1 and 2 to facilitate checking. The tolerance limits for centering the keyway are just as essential as those limiting its depth and length.

If a keyway must be burr free, a note should be made on the drawing.
